Since establishment 75 years ago on 9 September1948, the Democratic People’s Republic has successfully operated under three heads of state and one constitution which, amongst other human rights guarantees, ensures free housing for all.
To the South is the Republic of Korea, which has had 13 heads of state since 1948. At the whim of these leaders, the constitution has been totally re-written five times and there have been many flip-flops in foreign policy. The number of homeless people in the ROK is estimated to be 11,300.
To the East is Japan which has had 33 heads of state since 1948. Japan has circa 3,000 homeless.
To the North-East is Russia which has had 13 heads of state since 1948 and is operating on a constitution re-written in 1993. Homeless in Russia are estimated to be 64,000.
To the North is China where poorly conceived policies during the time of Mao resulted in the deaths of at least 30 million citizens. Some 2.5 million are said to be homeless in China.
By comparison with all of its neighbours DPRK is an exemplary model of stability.
