Mr. Metha Matkhao Chairman, Thai-Korean Friendship Association
September 9, 2023 marks the 75th anniversary founding of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). On behalf of Thai people would like to express their congratulations on the occasion of its 75th anniversary of the nation.
The foundation of DPRK was a century-old event which had the Korean people come upon to the international arena as the master of their own destiny and the development of history. Korean fatherland, which had lost its colors from the world ma in the past, soared high as a sovereign independent state and a radical change was brought about in molding the destiny of the popular masses and, thus the honor of the nation is being displayed all over the world.
President Kim Il Sung, who liberated Korea from the Japanese colonial imperialist, laid firm foundation for building an independent sovereign state smashing the maneuvers of imperialists and on its basis, found the DPRK. Grasping self-reliance as an almighty sword in the 15-year-long armed struggle for national liberation from Japanese colonial rule, three-year Fatherland Liberation War against the aggression of the US-led allied imperialist forces, postwar rehabilitation and its unique socialist construction, President Kim Il Sung(1912-1994) turned what were impossible to possibilities, thus turning the country into a socialist industrial state in a short period of time.
Thailand has maintained strong diplomatic relations with North Korea. Despite having fought in wars and caused sufferings in the Korean Peninsula, all the lessons learned, and new friendships formed remain at the core of Thailand's long-standing success. Similar to the Free Thai Movement during the World War II, the Thai army was forced to enter the war against the Axis powers, but the Thai people were opposed to fighting alongside the Allies.
As a result, the Thai-Korean Friendship Association has proposed the following to contribute to peace and security of the people in the region on the 75th anniversary of the country.
We encourage the Thai government and other 16 nations that participated in the Korean conflict not to re-participate (No Reparticipation) in the war and to cease war in order to enhance peace in accordance with the Korean War peace agreement.
We request the role of UN Command-UNC be terminated in line with UN General Assembly Resolution 3390 of December 1975, which states that the UN Command-UNC must be dissolved, and all foreign forces stationed in South Korea must be withdrawn.
We urge the United States and South Korea to halt any provocative actions and the constant deployment of US nuclear strategic assets in the Korean peninsula, including military exercises such as landing and infiltration drills, surprise landing and assault drills staged by special units under war scenarios aimed at "end of regime", "decapitation", and "occupation of Pyongyang", as these actions are questionable for only defensive purposes.
Friendly countries around the world should play a part in strengthening both nations’ peace, regardless of North-South discrimination as both desire peaceful reunification from within, without any interference from outside powers especially American Imperialism. This can be achieved by ending external instigations and wars. Outside forces must withdraw all troops immediately, leaving the future of Korea in the hands of the people of North Korea and South Korea, who must decide whether to unify the nation and live peacefully together, or whether to have one country with two systems. Its destiny should be decided by the people of Korea.
Thai-Korean Friendship Association firmly believes that, we will extend full support and solidarity toward the Korean people in their struggle to defend the national independence and achieve the prosperity of the country and the people.
Mr. Metha Matkhao
Chairman, Thai-Korean Friendship Association
