THE Belgium Korea Friendship Association whole-heartedly congratulates the Korean People on the occasion of the Day of the Shining Star, the 80th anniversary of birth of Kim Jong Il, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army.
Kim Jong Il was born on February 16th, 1942, in the Paektu Secret Camp, covered with snow, which was then the headquarters of the anti-Japanese liberation war.
In the 1960s he was admitted to the Kim Il Sung University, aiming to continue the cause of Kim Il Sung, building Korea to a brilliant nation.
From June 1964 he has worked at the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea as an instructor. Basing his views upon the works of the founders of socialism, he developed these ideas and applied them in practice, according to the specific situation of his country and the concrete historical period, resolving the essential tasks and urgent problems in the interest of the Korean people.
On May 3th, 1983 on the occasion of the 165th birthday of Karl Marx and the centenary of his death, he wrote: “Let us advance under the banner of Marxism-Leninism and the Juche Idea”.
From July 8th, 1994, he became the leader of the state under very difficult conditions, due to the decease of President Kim Il Sung, the blockade by the imperialist powers, the collapse of the Soviet-Union and several natural disasters, but during a period of "arduous march" the country managed to overcome these problems.
On November 1, 1994, in his work “Socialism is a science” he wrote : “The masses of the people are the motive force of history. The masses of the people means a united social community which centers on working people, due to their common demand for independence and creative activity.”
On October 8th, 1997 he was elected General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea. The Juche philosophy served as guiding line in the realization of the three revolutions – ideological, technological and cultural.
On April 18th, 1998 he wrote: “Let us reunify the country independently and peacefully through the great unity of the entire nation.” In the years 2000 and 2007 he met the South-Korean presidents, which led to the Common Declarations, which appealed to co-operation in the field of culture, economy and social relations.
On September 5th, 2008 in his work “The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is a Juche-oriented socialist state with invincible might” he stated that “today economic construction is at the forefront in the building of a great prosperous and powerful nation” and “that we must give priority to the development of defense industry and develop light industry and agriculture simultaneously so as to effect a drastic turn in improving the people’s standard of living.”
In January 2021, the 8th Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea has confirmed the basic principles of Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism, formulated by President Kim Il Sung and Secretary-General Kim Jong Il, that guide the Workers’ Party of Korea in the building of a strong and prosperous nation. We wish the Workers’ Party of Korea furthermore many great successes in the realizing of the interests of the Korean people.
