Official Report of the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea
(on the May 31st Enlarged Zoom Meeting)
Asia-Pacific Regional Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea (APRCPRK), proceeding from its mission to render support and solidarity to the reunification cause of the Korean people, and reaffirming that an issue of Korean reunification is the issue of the utmost urgency for the righteous and peace-loving people of Korea and the issue which has direct bearing on world peace and security, held its enlarged ZOOM meeting on May 31st, 2021 with the purpose of further vitalizing the movements and campaigns to support the reunification of Korea in the international arena.
The enlarged meeting through ZOOM was participated in by His Excellency Madhav Kumar Nepal, Former Prime Minister of Nepal and Chairman of the Nepal Committee to Promote Reunification of Korea; Mdm. Rachmawati Soekarnoputri, founder of Soekarno Foundation for Education, Indonesia and Patron, Indonesia-Korea Friendship and Cultural Exchange; Mr. Atul Kumar Anjan, Secretary of the National Council of the Communist Party of India and Chairman of All India-Korea Friendship Association; Mr. Peter Woods, Ambassador of United Cities and Local Governments (Asia-Pacific) and National Patron, Australia-DPRK Friendship & Cultural Society; Mr. Himori Fumihiro, Chairman of Japanese Committee for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea and Mr. Rafael V. Mariano, President of the Philippine-Korea Solidarity and Friendship Society (PKSFS) and other key members of the APRCPRK, leading officials from friendship and solidarity organization with the Korean people in the region, representatives of the progressive organizations and anti-war & peace organizations.
Attending the meeting were also many prominent and distinguished personages from Nepal, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia and various countries in the region.
Invited as the Guests of Honour were Co-chairs of the Organizing Committee of the International Festival in Praise of the Great Persons of Mt. Paektu (OCIFPGPP) – Mr. Damian Uzoma Ogbonna, who is Chairman of the African Committee for Friendship and Solidarity with the Korean People and Dr. Yahia Zakaria Khiralla, Co-chairman of the Arab Committee for Friendship and Solidarity with the Korean People. Mr. Anders Kristensen, Co-chair of OCIFPGPP and Chairman of Denmark-DPRK Friendship Association.
The Enlarged Meeting had a detailed report on the prevailing and ever-changing political situation on the Korean peninsula for the last five years and reviewed APRCPRK's work and activities to support the just cause of the Korean people to achieve the national reunification and unity as well as putting forth the tasks for the APRCPRK in its future activities.
The participants in the meeting unanimously agreed that the reunification of Korea constitutes an internal issue for the Korean nation, and acknowledged that the reunification of Korea should be achieved without, independently and peacefully with the concerted efforts of the Korean nationals themselves without interference from foreign forces.
The meeting has raised and discussed the role that the APRCPRK would play as a united-front coalition in launching regional campaigns to support the righteous cause of the Korean people for their national reunification in a more extensive and strategic way as well as coordinating the close ties and unified action with all the progressive forces in the region.
The Enlarged Meeting reviewed and endorsed a new Constitution of the APRCPRK, discussed and decided upon a series of important issues to reshuffle the organizational structure to make it a more active and lively regional organization, and to put on quite a new aspect as well as securing better networking between its constituent members.
The meeting has elected Co-chairpersons and formed an Executive Bureau to be a leading body of the APRCPRK while putting a Secretariat and Public Information Bureau under its guidance. The meeting empowered the newly formed Public Information Bureau to be in full charge of work related to official press releases of the organization and other relevant information and communicative services.
The meeting considered the list of its affiliated members and fully endorsed them. The meeting also decided to confer the title of Life Membership to prominent figures in the region for their meritorious services towards the reunification of Korea and relevant measures were decided to further encourage their continued involvement and commitment to Korea's reunification by issuing an appropriate certificate.
The meeting also reviewed draft logo designs for the organization submitted by many individuals in the region and selected the winner by a voting method. The meeting endorsed the final selection among various submissions to be the formal and official logo of the APRCPRK.
The meeting discussed the issue to optimize the website and social media platforms in its future activities, and entrusted the Public Information Bureau to establish and run a trial F/B page as well as registering an organizational email address so that its members can have their own email account of the APRCPRK to keep close contact with each other.
The Enlarged Meeting discussed and decided that the regional committee would set the period from June 25th to July 27th every year as the "Month of Solidarity with the Korean People", initiating the regional campaigns and coordinating its implementation. The meeting decided that the APRCPRK would consider the various actions such as signature campaigns, mass rallies, press releases etc to render support to the reunification of Korea. Many constructive ideas were raised in the meeting to re-vitalize the activities of the APRCPRK, and the meeting recorded them and decided that the Executive Bureau would discuss and decide matters and inform its members of the result in due course.
Asia-Pacific Regional Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea, announcing this official report on the proceedings of the Enlarged ZOOM Meeting, has entrusted the APRCPRK Public Information Bureau to widely distribute this report to the friendship and solidarity organizations with the Korean people around the world and international friends of the Korean people while posting this official report along with other main documents of the meeting on F/B page of the APRCPRK to be newly established.
Public Information Bureau was also entrusted to consider the issue of establishing the website of the APRCPRK in the near future and present the detailed plans to the Executive Bureau for its review. In the meantime, the Secretariat was entrusted to take minutes of the enlarged zoom meeting and circulate for endorsement and approval of the Executive Bureau once ready.
Asia-Pacific Regional Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea appeals to all the peace organizations and progressive people in the region to actively become involved in the campaigns to support the reunification of Korea by fully recognizing the urgent nature of Korea's reunification, and to align the solidarity movements with activities to give wide publicity to the exploits of the great leaders of the Korean people who have made undying contributions to the cause of the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea.
